In line with the rising need to build a pool of professionals with a sound understanding of the capital market, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia’s Graduate School of Business (UKM-GSB) and RAM Holdings Berhad (RAM) agreed in 2015 to jointly offer Certificate in the Malaysian Capital Market. The programme is also aimed at strengthening public-private sector partnerships to raise the marketability of graduates in the job market and also meet the increasing demand for skilled graduates to support the growing sophistication of Malaysia’s capital markets.

As part of their MBA programme, a total of 140 students had attended the first module on An Overview of the Malaysian Capital Market. Of these, 100 had chosen to complete all 3 modules in their attempt to qualify for the Certificate in the Malaysian Capital Market.

According to Professor Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Dr. Noor Azlan Ghazali, UKM’s Vice-Chancellor, “The Certificate Programme on the Malaysian Capital Market is, I believe, the first of its kind in Malaysia and I am proud to see UKM-GSB at the forefront of this initiative. The programme has managed to foster a fruitful and continuous exchange of ideas between academia and industry. I am particularly pleased that this UKM-RAM partnership highlights the important role that industry can play in enhancing the skills and competencies of our future graduates,” he added.

The programme is designed to equip students with practical knowledge on the workings of the Malaysian capital markets. The modules are conducted by an expert who brings practical and real-life experiences to the class. Datuk Seri Dr K Govindan, RAM’s Group CEO, said, “When we first embarked on this idea, the main objective had been to promote the employability of graduates and support the development of the capital markets. I am glad to say we have managed to achieve exactly that.” He added, “It is also heartening to note the continued interest from students to participate in this course, based on the increasing number of registrations for subsequent sessions.”

Today, 43 students received the Certificate in the Malaysian Capital Market at a ceremony held at the Sama Sama Hotel in Sepang, jointly organised by UKM and RAM. “We have deliberately set high standards for this certification programme to reflect the challenging work environment graduates will encounter in the capital markets. As such, I would like to congratulate these students for having met such high standards and achieved commendable results,” quipped Datuk Seri Dr Govindan.
