Malaysian bond and sukuk market top performers recognised at 20th RAM League Awards

On 15th March 2023, RAM Rating Services Berhad (RAM Ratings or RAM) hosted the best of the Malaysian debt market for the 20th consecutive year. The annual RAM League Awards (RLA) was held at Sage Restaurant in The Gardens, Kuala Lumpur. The RLA acknowledges the work of the most influential and outstanding financial institutions (FIs) that are thought leaders, innovators and visionaries in the Malaysian bond and sukuk market. RAM Ratings presented a total of 17 awards in four categories to leading FIs in the Malaysian corporate bond and sukuk market. 

Maybank Investment Bank Berhad secured four awards, taking pole position in all four RLA categories for corporate bonds and sukuk in terms of programme size (RM13.4 bil) as well as number of corporate bonds and sukuk issues (10 deals) in 2022. Another big winner in terms of number of awards was CIMB Investment Bank Berhad which ranked second in all four categories. CIMB Investment arranged three deals totalling RM5.3 bil in corporate bonds and sukuk in 2022.

Other notable winners were Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad, RHB Investment Bank Berhad, AmInvestment Bank Berhad and MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Berhad which each secured two awards in their respective categories, while Hong Leong Investment Bank was credited with arranging two corporate bond and sukuk deals.

We hope that the annual awards will continue to inspire FIs and corporates to push boundaries in developing the Malaysian bond and sukuk market,” said Awang Za’aba Awang Mahmud, RAM Ratings Chief Executive Officer. 

The leading credit rating agency in Malaysia, RAM Ratings has rated bond and sukuk issues valued at about USD476 billion since its inception in 1990. Out of the total 26 rated debt issues in 2022, amounting to RM90.7 billion, RAM published the ratings of 18 debt issues with an aggregate value of RM79.1 billion.
