RAM Sustainability has assigned a Gold Sustainability Rating to Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB or the Group). The rating reflects MAHB’s strong overall sustainability performance after taking into consideration its environment, social and governance (ESG) and positive impact attributes.
“Corporate sustainability is gaining traction as Malaysian corporates adapt to the capital market’s sensitivity to ESG risks and opportunities,” observes Gladys Chua, RAM Sustainability’s Head of Sustainability Services. “With the vaccination programme well underway in Malaysia and globally, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the airline industry. MAHB, as an airport operator, continues to demonstrate clear intention and strategies to catalyse national economic progress and social inclusion even through the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of an international network of transportation hubs, it is also committed to global programmes to limit climate change,” Chua adds.
MAHB’s sustainability performance is driven by robust governance and its positive impact on the economy and society. The Group’s dedication towards integrity and anti-corruption is shown by the adoption of the ISO 37001: Anti-Bribery Management Systems. Additionally, the recent incorporation of climate-change risk into the MAHB’s risk scorecard reflects the dynamism of its governance approach. The rating is further supported by the Group’s focused community and social contributions as well as forward-looking environmental policies and strategies. MAHB’s Green Airport Strategy targets a 50% reduction in carbon emission and waste by 2030 amongst other environmental goals.
Besides MAHB’s journey in improving its supply chain as well as carbon emission management, we recognise the Group’s strong performance, backed by high governance standards. Furthermore, MAHB’s international participation as a signatory to the Aviation Industry Commitment Action to Climate Change and its Level 3: Optimisation accreditation under the Airport Carbon Accreditation programme ensure adherence to global best practices.
